PAST WORKSHOPS
Trailer Editing Workshop with Andrew Gerstanblatt
|
Last spring, Cinegogue held a Trailer Editing Workshop, led by our very own Andrew Gerstenblatt, a senior BFA Film production major at the School of Cinematic Arts.
Andrew, who has learned the ins and outs of trailer editing through his work at a high-profile trailer editing house, gave Cinegogue a presentation in which he broke down several popular film trailers and showed participants how the editors manage to choose specific shots, moments, and music, and bring them all together to create an exciting and memorable trailer. Afterwards, Andrew showed Cinegogue how he puts together a trailer in real time. The trailer editing workshop is part of Cinegogue’s Pre-Professional series, highlighting the different paths that prospective filmmakers can take in finding a career in the entertainment industry, and the steps that they can take to get their first job. |
Pitch Perfect with Industry Professionals
Cinegogue’s signature event, held each fall, is “Pitch Perfect,” an event that brought together club members and SCA faculty, who act as judges in a pitching showcase. The event, led by Beatrice Halper, Director of Pre-Professional Development, was conceived just a few weeks earlier with a workshop on how to make a creative, concise, and catchy pitch that will get the attention of studio executives.
Cinegogue members who either had scripts or ideas for films and television shows were able to create their own pitch decks, highlighting the concept, characters, and tone of their work. In 2022, Cinegogue was joined by SCA faculty members David Isaacs, Sharon Greene, and Beverly Neufeld, all of whom are screenwriting professors with extensive experience in giving pitch presentations. Club members gave their finalized pitches and were given feedback by all of the judges. |

Script Coverage Workshop with Beatrice Halper
|
Last fall, Cinegogue held a script coverage workshop led by Beatrice Halper, Director of Pre-Professional Development. Script coverage, which is a document that gives a synopsis and critique of a potential script, is a skill that is often required for summer internships in the entertainment industry but not always taught in SCA classes.
With experience writing film and television script coverage through several internships, Beatrice gave a presentation on how to write a concise synopsis, accurately judge the quality of a work, and give organized and clear notes on the overall script. Club members were then given a mock script to do coverage on together. Afterwards, attendees were given a script coverage template to use for sample script coverage to send out for internship applications. This workshop was part of Cinegogue’s Pre-Professional effort to help members find internships within the entertainment industry, and to give them the best resources possible to help them secure it! |
